Olympic and Paralympic Memories

Canada's Games, the Olympic and Paralympic have now passed into memory, but for most of us they stay within our hearts. The legacies of patriotism, the changing of attitudes towards Paralympians and the community they represent, and a renewed sense of community and unity are also worth their own weight in GOLD!!!!! In aworld of few heroes Canada has a Golden treasure trove of new ones laced with Silver and Bronze!!! From the Olympian to the Paralympian all were seen as ATHLETES, not athletes…See More

Diastasis recti can be prevented during pregnancy. Avoid ab crunches (even oblique ones as this still pulls on the rectus abdominus) after week 16 and focus on deep core and pelvic floor muscles. Try to roll on your side when you get out of bed…

September should be called STEPtember for me now as I bought a pedometer and found out that I am now walking just over 12 Km just shy of 8 miles every second day. Almost walking a half marathon every other day!!! Whoo hoo!! 20,000+ steps each time I…

A few steps...keep on keepin on

Today was one where I felt like the "old" me was coming back.I got my kids set up in my tandem stroller, and headed out to take one of them to school, which is all the way across town. Normally the walk takes me an hour easy, but I thought I would try to run/jog as much as I could, and see how much of the trip I could keep up the faster pace.I am guessing it was a quarter of the distance roughly that I was able to run or jog, the rest I tried to do a fast paced walk, with metal music blasting…See More

Sheena you rock harder than Keith Richards and have more swagger than Jagger! Give yourself a hell yeah! You have transformed yourself so amazingly it is almost impossible to tell that the two images above are the same person!!! Kudos girl!!!

My BodyPROUD Story
My philosophy regarding fitness is that You must always INSPIRE as you PERSPIRE. Coming from a past of obesity and struggles with Bulimia I know the struggles to obtain and maintain a healthy body and healthy body image. There are those coming up behind me, those just reclaiming their rights to the body they posses, and my life and drive, can prove that no matter how impossible the journey seems at the onset...success is just beyond the verge of giving up!!!

Having children in an age of childhood obesity makes my success even more important...my children will follow my lead. To that end I am active in encouraging my love of sports and being active in my children. I am accountable to them as a role model and example.

Gaining the new me meant training and education. I've studied nutrition along my journey even to the point of learning how the elements of food act and react within my body. Knowledge only has power if it is applied. Thankfully my results show I have the power of my knowledge.

Presently my abs are hiding under the remnants of two pregnancies but I can still see the physique I once possessed and it has me hungry for the gym and getting back into the intense training prior to motherhood!!

I'm yearning for the burning!!!!! >:)

Aside from fitness I love watching my Stamps play in the CFL, and the Flames in the NHL. On a lesser level I love the Blue Jays and am so happy they brought Gaston back....fingers crossed!

I love dance and have taken a year long course in Ballroom Dance. Hoping to again take some dance lessons in future...Dance also helps give killer legs and flexibility. ;)
To Become BodyPROUD, I commit to do the Following:
From where I stand now my goals are modest. I am the mother of two young children, My body shows the ravages of having my children so I would just like to slim down to fit my old clothes.

Once I lose my baby weight, then I can set the bar higher and try to gain back the body I had before my pregnancies.
How I Boosted my Confidence and/or Added Joy and/or Health into my Life:
Always best to INSPIRE as you PERSPIRE!
Please Help ME with:
Since adolescence I have always struggled with my weight and body image. I also love food and the whole experience of eating. Both of these coupled together in my late 20's in dramatic fashion.

A photograph taken of me at my parents home brought reality crashing down into my conscientiousness. The image was of an obese woman who resembled a female Jabba the Hut. When I went home that night I cried, devastated at the reality I had before been oblivious too.

I had come to a crossroads. Get angry and do something about it...or go to the freezer and down my sorrow in chocolate ice cream.

I had already tried the Weight Watchers and it failed miserably! It was a FOR NOW solution not a FOREVER one. A temporary fix for a permanent problem.

I started by going online and studying nutrition, portion control, and my search eventually lead me to finding WNSO and the forums.

I took a year to get my eating under control, making wiser decisions regarding my diet. One of the biggest changes was going from drinking an average of 2 Litres of Coke a Cola per day to drinking the equivalent of that in water!!!

Another change was battling a Bulimic mindset, which was brutal on the body.

However there was more to do...

Just changing my relationship with food was not enough...I needed more!

I finally decided to take the bullet and join a gym.

Honestly, the biggest workout of my life was opening the door to the gym!! I was intimidated, and scared out of my mind! At the time I was just a mere four BMI points away from Morbid Obesity, straining the scales at over 200 Lbs, in a 5' 3" frame.

My first trainer gave me golden advice that I adhered to. Weigh and measure yourself all you want when you go home, then when you have exhausted yourself...throw both the scale and tape measure out! Work out a minimum of an hour, three times a week without fail...make the gym your new religion. Do not skip or miss a session and in three months from now you can weigh and measure yourself again.

Three months came and went and the results of the weigh and measure had definitive results!!!! I was so encouraged that I set three month check points and never looked back!

Within a year of joining the gym I dropped 70 Lbs and 10 clothing sizes!!!! From 210 Lbs down to 140 Lbs, and from a size 18/22 down to a size 8!!

I continued participating in the WNSO forums, and visiting other Bodybuilding sites, maintaining my studies and gym visits.

When I was 33 I had dropped to 135 Lbs, and a size 7. To celebrate my husband bought me my first ever designer jeans...and low riders at that!!!

I had the glimmer of a six pack showing, and was wearing midriff tops on a regular basis! A far cry from where I began!

I also set my sights on competing in the Fitness Figure aspect of FAME!!! My confidence and appreciation of my body had grown exponentially!!!

My dream of competition was delayed due to becoming pregnant with my son...but even at nine months pregnant, I weighed less than obese!

Here I am today, with two beautiful children and a body ravaged by two pregnancies.

I am unable to rejoin a gym as the gyms in my town do not have childcare but I am making little steps toward regaining the body I once had. Daily walks pushing the kids in a stroller, Saturdays gunning it to garage sales with a wagon in tow.
My Dietary &/or Training Routine:
I belonged to the old WNSO forums and found it VERY motivating, educational, and inspiring! It had me believing that competing could be a part of my future and not just a dream.
Expressing Gratitude is a Key Ingredient to a Happy Life. I Am Grateful for:
Overcoming obesity, becoming a mother of two
Profession:
Parent, Other

In Recovery...

Posted on August 18, 2009 at 12:52pm 3 Comments

How long has it been since I have posted anything here in Body Proud??? It has been ages to be sure!

I have been so busy being a mother of two, indulging in summer activities, and trying to be outdoors as much as possible. I also suffered a miscarriage a week ago and am still grieving the loss of a daughter.

In light of all of this I have not been living the "fit lifestyle" and have lost an insane amount of sleep.

I look at my body and know it is not any where… Continue
