Hey, I LOVE to mix protein powder in with my oatmeal, but I think I heard somewhere that heating protein powder does something to it (denatures it or something?) Does anyone know if this is true?

Very cute! I too am starting at square 0, and my trick is to go week by week. Already week 2's workouts are a bit tougher than week 1's, which is a great feeling. Let us know if you reach your goals this week!

Profile Information

My Plug:: I work at the local high school as a Personal Attendant for students with special needs. Most have problems with mobility, so it makes me thankful every day for my healthy body.

My BodyPROUD Story: I am married with two young children. I try to exercise regularly and eat clean, not only for myself but so that my kids can learn from my example how to be their healthiest.

My Facts 'n Stats:: Roxanne McCleary, 32 years old, grew up in Williams Lake, BC. Have a degree in Human Kinetics from UBC.

My AHA Life Defining Moments:: The adrenaline rush (and relief!) after leaving the stage is like nothing else! I didn't like placing last, but I'm no stranger to disappointment, so I will try again until I get it right!

To Become BodyPROUD, I commit to do the Following:: To compete again, and improve my placing, but mainly to feel good about myself and my body, like I did in April at FAME West.

Please Help ME with:: I was a competitive gymnast up until I was 17, but was never really body proud. Being around all these elite athletes during my university days didn't motivate me to change my lifestyle, which involved eating junk and drinking to excess, it just made me feel like a fraud. Working at a gym and teaching aerobics gradually changed my body shape and image. After having kids and getting my body back (somewhat!), I wanted to pursue something that would combine my gymnastics background and fitness, and give me a concrete goal. I watched FAME West '07, and decided I was going to hit the stage in '08. We were living in the Yukon at the time, and I would go running in -20 degree weather for cardio, and do my weights with this cheap set of adjustable DB's. Routine practice was in my living room. But once my plane ticket was purchased, there was no way out!

My Dietary &/or Training Routine:: I'm not body proud at the moment, and I want to be again.

Expressing Gratitude is a Key Ingredient to a Happy Life. I Am Grateful for:: Having people - strangers! - come up to me after my performance and say how fantastic it was!
