My BodyPROUD Story
I grew up in small town Saskatchewan, played every sport but wasn't introduced to the weight room until after high school. I dabbled in lifting weights but never fully committed myself to the process but of course I wanted all of the results!! I later became a police officer and can't say I learned anything valuable about health and fitness during my time in training. It wasn't until this past year I committed to taking my personal trainer and became certified in instructing group fitness and my passion for health and fitness took off!! My goal was to compete in the Sandra Wickham fall classic in Vancouver in Nov '09, but with some recent surgery I will be rescheduling that date. I look forward to joining this family and learning from others as well as helping to motivate others.
My Facts 'n Stats:
I had been working out at a mediocre level for about 12 years and really got serious about learning and excelling in this past year. I plan on entering my first figure compeition in 2010, and I can't wait to show off the fruit of hard work and determination!!
My bodyPROUD Goals:
Hi everyone, my name is Kim and I live in British Columbia Canada. I couldn't help but be attracted to the Bodyproud website as it was flashing in my face on the Fitnessrxmag homepage!!! I am a semi-retired police officer, mother of four little kids, group fitness instructor and soon to be personal trainer.
My AHA Life Defining Moments:
I believe that our bodies are gifts and that they are to be cherished and pampered. I believe that extra effort should always be taken to get to know somebody inside the shell as it is all to easy to judge who you think a person is based on their appearance.
My Transformation Triumphs!
I am a mother of four children. My children are now 7, 3,3, and almost 2. After I gave birth to my twin boys by ceserean section (they were 8 pounds each at birth) I was feeling low. I had gained 65 pounds during the pregnancy and lost 40 at the hospital. I had my work cut out for me. But I ignored the lack of sleep, wore a mask of determination and I strapped on those running shoes, hit the weights as hard as I could and 6 months later I was at my pre-pregnancy weight. I may not have looked like a supermodel but I felt like one and I had the optimism and energy to remind myself that if I could do it then, I can do it anytime!! The greatest part was when I became pregnant again and was a competitior in a relay. when I went to get my prize I brought along my twins and everyone was astonished that those two babies were mine and I would soon be having another one. I felt like I could inspire other moms and moms of multiples to defy what restrictions you think you are being placed under and just got for it!!
My bodyPROUD Intentions:
Increase My Confidence, Improve my Health, Gain More Flexibility, Increase My Strength, Become a Role Model to My Children & Family, Keep Me Young, Feel Better about Myself, Compete in Physique Showcase Events, Improve My Posture, Sculpt My Physique, Attain Proper Symmetry, Feel Good in a Bathing Suit, Be an Inspiration to Others, Get Discovered - TV, Magazines, Sponsorship, Gain Exposure, Become an Athlete
To Become BodyPROUD, I commit to do the Following:
well I'm at November 9th, 2009 and 10 days post surgery. I would like to complete my 6 weeks of recovery with walking only then get back into my routine. I had planned out that I would love to find a show in the spring t compete in so spring 2010 would be my first goal if I can find a compeition date close to me!
Life Advice that Helped Me:
Connect with others who are ilike minded. Write down your goals and proclaim them to the world!!! Don't forget that you're in the same boat as everyone else! Don't allow anyone to put down your goals and belittle your dreams, respectfully tell them to stop the negative dialogue and ask them to support you in your goals. If they refuse re-evaluatre the relationship. Remember the days that you LEAST want to go to the gym are going to be the days where you get the BEST workout and days that you will remember you kept going in the face of adversity!!
If you are just getting started with your goals, and are struggling through the inital "inertia" as I call it, don't forget that once you've overcome that inital inertia, it's smooth sailing, DO NOT QUIT!!
How I Boosted my Confidence and/or Added Joy and/or Health into my Life:
Nutrition is important to me but I have to admit I have a nasty sweet tooth that usually prevents me from taking that teeny little step to meeting my final goal!!! I'm always wanting to learn more andam always getting better at enforcing new habits. I work out hard in the gym everytime. I love to prepare my own workouts and accept the challenge of completing workouts others have prepared for me. I'm probably better at focused thinking than I think I am, but I'm always wanting to get better and better.
Please Help ME with:
Olympic power lifting, ways to mix up really challenge myself during cardio sessions and other tricks and tips.
My Dietary &/or Training Routine:
Typically I eat between 5-6 meals a day depending on if it's a training day. All meals contain protein with a fat or carb.

I use protein powder from Bodywise International as well as their Immunity and Sports Supplementation line for all my boosts of energy, increased immunity and muscle repair!!

My training routine is generally a four day split with about 5-6 cardio sessions that week including group fitness classes that I teach.
Expressing Gratitude is a Key Ingredient to a Happy Life. I Am Grateful for:
My family and the Good Lord who has steered me in the right direction when I didn't know which way to turn.
My Hero / Role Model / Trainer / Sponsor / Coach / Guru... and Why
I have many role models. One is a recent trainer of mine, Andrea Wold who is the owner of Focused 'n Fit studio in Kitimat, B.C. She is one of the nicest, caring and beautiful women in all the world.
My high school sports coach Brian Cowen was amazing at inspiring and motivating us to push harder. He raised the bar to an unbelievable height and we met it everytime. If he had kept the bar low with low expectations than perhaps we would have stayed there. That's what makes him an amazing inspiration.
