Hi Ian - funny that, most men down my gym don't bother training their legs, just worry about the bit you can see in a vest!! Why is that?? !! OK, well best of luck with your training and look forward toseeing you on stage in 2011. Thanks for…

My Plug:
When I'm at my best physique I would love to become a Fitness model, so will be plugging myself like mad :)
My BodyPROUD Story
Where do I start? OK I'll cut straight to where I really started living life!

I went travelling at 21 after splitting from my fiancé. The relationship got too intense, especially with pressure from his family to start a family, I know I had to get out and get a life, I was just too young. Whilst renting I met a happy go lucky French girl (Gaëlle), we both had the same passions for travel so we decided to 'go for it! Monte Carlo was our first port of call and we worked on various luxury private yachts around the South of France, met some great people, lots of fun and many parties. We even kept up our training and often went to Joe Wielders famous gym on the Port of Monaco - mainly attended by beefy men so we were out of place! We then travelled to Fort Lauderdale and we worked for 9months with a car promoter called Jay Crouch who used to train with Arnold Schwarzenegger!

Cutting a long story short, we both returned to the UK after 2 years of amazing travelling, and Gaëlle went back home to France and we lost touch.

The years rolled by and I found myself hopping from one job to the next. I was always fortunate enough to have good paid jobs, but I was never satisfied and always looking for something better - something to inspire ME!

When I relocated from London to Northampton in 2001 the first thing I did was join a local gym! 3 months later I met the love of my life (at the gym) and 12months later we were planning our wedding. I was overjoyed.

I settled into my new job last year (Feb 2009) as Head of Sales for a Finance Company working with my old Director in a great job. Still an avid member of the gym, one of the Personal Trainers, Becky Adams, was 'bulking up' and getting in shape for her first Body Building Contest to compete in May 2009. I was in total admiration of Becky. She was a 39 year old mother of 3 (and grandmother) and she looked totally amazing. I felt passionate about what she was striving to achieve...just 'proud' I suppose. Becky won her first contest and went on to compete at the finals in Oct 2009. We all went along to offer our support. Unfortunately she came 2nd, but what a great achievement in her first year. But for some reason, I just thought to myself ‘would I be able to do something like that? Could I be strict enough to create a 'fat free' and muscular body?’

It was fast approaching Christmas 2009 and I was looking forward to the festivities. In our house this always centres on drinking too much alcohol and eating 'rubbish', binging on sweets, crisps and jumbo size portions of everything!
My Mum's birthday falls on the week before Christmas, and this year my Mum, stepdad, hubby and I went for a lavish meal. It was whilst we were having this meal, and probably because we were all drinking vast amounts, that Mum got tearful and started to talk about my sister Andrea.

Andrea, my older sister of 5 years, was only 39 when she lost her battle to ovarian cancer in June 2009. She had only just remarried and had 3 wonderful children. For the past 2 years she had battled breast cancer, but it had spiralled out of control in a matter of months. I remember visiting Andrea 4 days before she passed away and was devastated to see my wonderful sister literally skin and bones, it was terribly shocking.

So, my Mum said to me ‘I don't know what I would do if I lost you too Karen’, it was like a wakeup call to me. Here I was spending countless hours in the gym only to be drinking alcohol most nights to excess, time for change.

My ambition is to become a Body Fitness/Figure competitor. I started eating 'clean' in January 2010 to lose body fat. In March I began to up my carbs and concerntrate and building up mass. I am passionate about getting my body in to best shape of its life.

Thanks you to all I mention in ’My Story’ as they have all been an inspiration.

Oh, I am back in touch with Gaëlle and she is happily married with 2 children living in France!
My Facts 'n Stats:
I'm a young at heart 35year old! I'm 5ft 10ins, 9st 4lbs (130pounds).
My whole life revolves around keeping healthy, active and staying trim...I enjoy life to the max!
My bodyPROUD Goals:
6 weeks into the Start of my journey to become a Figure/Fitness competitor. (Started 4th Jan 2010)

I am on a 'cutting' diet to shift all the fat before bulking up. So far, so good. Can now see my abs and my arms are looking cut. Very motivated. Switching over will be end of this month (Feb).
My AHA Life Defining Moments:
You only have one body, one mind and one life; enjoy keeping your body at its best, your mind positive and you will enjoy a life full of reward

Live life to the max!
My Transformation Triumphs!
Most of my focus and determination is to get in shape to compete for the first time ever (training hard to compete later in the year-fingers crossed). I am just so proud that I have cut down totally on alcohol from every day to only 2 drinks a week! I have completely cut processed foods, chocolate and crisps from my diet and I actually don't miss them!!

Can't believe that I can now see my abs!!
My bodyPROUD Intentions:
Improve my Health, Increase My Strength, Become a Role Model to My Children & Family, Keep Me Young, Feel Better about Myself, Compete in Physique Showcase Events, Sculpt My Physique, Be an Inspiration to Others, Get Discovered - TV, Magazines, Sponsorship, Gain Exposure
To Become BodyPROUD, I commit to do the Following:
I am aiming to be ready to compete in May 2010.

I started eating clean from 4th Jan 2010, and siwtched to a high carb/mass build in March.
Life Advice that Helped Me:
If you really want something, you CAN achieve ANYTHING. You have to start somewhere and sometime, so start TODAY! But don't forget, Rome wasn't built in a day, so be patient, the results WILL come.
How I Boosted my Confidence and/or Added Joy and/or Health into my Life:
Eating healthy and keeping fit really makes you feel amazing about yourself. I'm a big believer that you should always want to acheive a goal for yourself and not for others. Only then will you truely acheive and WIN.
Please Help ME with:
Female Body Fitness/Figure competing/modelling. Also, dietry and body building programmes.

Any tips or advice for a newbie would be greatly appreciated.
My Dietary &/or Training Routine:
Eating clean and heavy weights 4 times per week with ample rest!

Hi gh carbs diet as I am very slim and trying to build mass.
Expressing Gratitude is a Key Ingredient to a Happy Life. I Am Grateful for:
Being healthy and having a wonderful and very supportive husband and a wonderful understanding Mum.
My Hero / Role Model / Trainer / Sponsor / Coach / Guru... and Why
Becky Adams (I mentioned Becky in 'My Story')

40 year old Becky looks like a very 'fit' 20something. Has an amazing body and an equally amazing attitude.

Becky has triumphed where most would have floundered. Her husband left her to raise her 3 young children single handed. She got a part time job at the gym, and then decided to study a Sports Degree from home and become a personal trainer. Becky's ambitions grew and she competed and won her first women's bodybuilding contest in March 09 and came 2nd in the finals in October. She is determined to train harder this year and will achieve 1st Place in the finals, I'm sure.

Becky has said on a few occasions about fitness/figure to me for consideration, and after seeing her own achievements, we will be supporting each other to train to win this year!

Thank you Becky for being a true inspiration to all women out there. Go for it girl!

I know some girls have dropped out as it's Mother's Day - bugger.

I've just started training as want to compete at some stage this year. FAME UK in May might be too soon as I have a lot of bulking up to do, so I know what you mean. I'm also no way near ready!!!! Just wanted to see what the Camp was like as I'm sure the day will be valuable info. Plus get to meet Audrey and Angie too!

Hope you can make it.

Thanks, Karen. I'm not sure I can go this Sunday, but I will try. Need to sort out childcare! I certainly hope they won't want us to actually put on the bikinis... I am not ready yet!
