Profile Information
- My BodyPROUD Story
- I was a gymnast from the age of 5 years old training up to 5 days a week until the age of 15 when I got injured rupturing my lateral ligaments in my ankle. I had my ankle reconstructed and retired from gymnastics. I studied leisure for the next 3 years and worked within the Leisure industry for the next 18 months when I changed direction and worked in dentistry. In the meantime I always enjoyed participating in regular sports playing in a netball team, swimming, cycling, aerobics even football! After my first child I returned to gymnastics for fitness and ruptured my anterior crutiate ligament on my knee. I put on a bit of weight during this time and later fell for my second child. After I had my daughter I wanted to lose weight but lacked the motivation. I had gained an incredible 4 stone! After a year I had made up my mind and I was going to do it. Through gradual changes in diet and the introduction of excercise the weight began to fall off. Over the timescale of two years I had lost all excess weight and was feeling great and back into my clothes that I was wearing when I was 19, I am now 33! In February of this year I kept collapsing and was rushed into hospital by ambulance with a suspected stroke. I was diagnosed with an anticaragulated artery in my brain with the addition of some pretty high blood pressure!! I was unable to speak and my left side was partially paralysed. I was so incredibly frustrated as my memory was patchy at best. It was suggested to my mum that as part of my physio I should join a gym - I hadn't set foot inside one for over ten years! I did - it was probably the best thing I could ever have done. For whatever reason in April 09 Mum took me to Peak Physique in Sittingbourne, Kent, where Shelley Stokes owns and runs. She took one look at me and could tell that I had a sports background asked me if I had ever thought about competing in bodyfitness. I thought about it and realised I suddenly had something to aim for!! I have trained hard and stuck hard to the diet. Last weekend I was entered into my first show, Fame Britain Championship 2009. I was in the Fitness category and to my delight I was positioned 1st!! I have met some amazing people along the way all with their own stories, and we all will each other along and have become great friends. I have the best training partners in the gym and have some of the best support a girl could ask for right now. x
