My BodyPROUD Story
I used to be a total party girl, and I really would beat down my body and health while I was "having a good time". I was always interested in fitness, but I would do the typical cycle of beginning a program, seeing results, then slacking off, only to end up where I started, and even more discouraged. There was always some excuse as to why I couldn't keep going or why I was justified with my slip ups.
Last year, I went through the break up of my engagement, which was definitely a good thing, because we were really not a good match for each other, but I took the break up really hard and went on a binge of terrible eating habits, drinking and laziness. I was losing weight, but it was for all the wrong reasons. Then I took at second job bartending and met my current boyfriend. For some reason, he just brought out the best in me and I suddenly wanted to be achieving my full potential.
It started out with small things. I stopped my destructive lifestyle. I started to focus on going back to school. And then I realized that I had enough drive to finally, FINALLY do the fitness competition I have been wanting to do for years! So without a second thought, I registered myself in the upcoming FAME West competition, knowing that if I had a deadline to meet, I would push myself that much harder to be competition ready. There was also a drive coming from the fact that so many people in my life were so negative and disbelieving about my goals and, as petty as it is, I wanted to prove not only to myself, but also to them, that I am capable.
I am now 6 weeks out (and counting down fast!!) from my first competition, I am a dedicated social work student, I work two jobs and I am living life to the fullest every day. I have a new appreciation for life and I am so driven to keep going because this new life path is proving to be so successful!! I'm competing in a local competition again in the summer and I am also hoping to compete in the Las Vegas FAME fitness model competition in November!! I feel so great with each accomplishment, day by day :)
My Facts 'n Stats:
Currently leading an insanely busy lifestyle with full-time university, two jobs, training for a FAME competition in March, and trying to have some kind of social life. My training is what keeps me grounded. I feel like if I up in that, everything else starts slipping too. I've finally found something that works!!
My AHA Life Defining Moments:
Fitness is just one of the cogs that keep your life in order. If you take care of yourself first, the rest sort of just falls into place. You feel better physically and mentally, look better physically, have more piece of mind that you're doing something really good for yourself, and you have more confidence. Once this realization occurs, the only reasonable outcome is to keep going with feeling great!!
My Transformation Triumphs!
So far, it was hitting the two month mark with my training and continuing down the path. Once that happened, and I took my before/after photos, I was dumbfounded. I really didn't think that I could be this in shape. It's the best shape of my life and because of these changes, which seemed so simple, I want to continue my lifestyle of clean eating and treating my body in the most healthy way possible.
My bodyPROUD Intentions:
Increase My Confidence, Improve my Health, Gain More Flexibility, Increase My Strength, Become a Role Model to My Children & Family, Feel Better about Myself, Compete in Physique Showcase Events, Improve My Posture, Sculpt My Physique, Attain Proper Symmetry, Feel Good in a Bathing Suit, Be an Inspiration to Others, Get Discovered - TV, Magazines, Sponsorship, Gain Exposure
To Become BodyPROUD, I commit to do the Following:
I want to continue to compete, but I really believe that body maintenance is something that is life long.
Please Help ME with:
How to prepare for the week out from a show. Should I dehydrate? And how much? What about carb loading? What should I be carb loading? I've heard from some that you can eat all the fast food you want, but then I've read that you should stick to clean choices such as oatmeal and yams...any advice?
My Dietary &/or Training Routine:
I get my cardio done first thing in the morning before I eat, which I do 6 days a week, usually for 35-45 minutes. Then I come home, eat something (usually oatmeal with egg whites and berries, or an egg white omelette) let it somewhat digest, then head back to the gym for my weights, which I do 4-5 times a week. My training switches up my training program every three weeks, so it keeps it interesting.
For my meals, I eat about 6 times a day and because I'm training for my upcoming competition, I eat protein constantly. Things like chicken, extra lean groud beef, turkey, tuna, salmon, white fish, and protein shakes, combined with lots and lots of veggies, salads and whole grains, such as brown rice.
Expressing Gratitude is a Key Ingredient to a Happy Life. I Am Grateful for:
Everything that I have, from the opportunities I have in life for things such as a university education, my amazing relationship, my family, the healthy food I am able to afford to eat...sometimes we take things for granted, but it's important to stop and look at all the positives you have in life.

Hi Devon,

Jewelry is permitted at the FAME World Tour events. Just know that some judges may find some jewelry too invasive and that it takes away from your overall look so be careful in the selection process. So dress according to the certain awards that you're after.

A healthy shopping trip to Van sounds awesome. I leave for Australia Jan. 28. so it has to be before that. That would be great to have a place to stay. Are you sure he doesnt mind? Was that the same place we stayed after Shambhala? I am going to invite some people to come watch but they probably wont stay overnight. It feels like this is coming on so fast! I'm making everyday of training count! We need to do that photoshoot in the gym! From 9pm to 10pm there are hardly any people in there. Maybe sun or mon or tues?
