My BodyPROUD Story
What can I say about me. My world revolves around my 10 year old and family and friends mean everything to me. I am fascinated by motorcycles, weapons and fast cars. 1 of the 3 are my hobbies, take a guess.
My Facts 'n Stats:
I go by Dee (short for Deidre) especially since a lot of people like to change the 'e' to an 'a' at the end of my name. (Dee- dreh actual pronunciation). I was born and raised in Jamaica and have lived in Florida for 16 years. Wow, time flies when you purposely try not to do the math so you don't remind yourself of the age. =>
My AHA Life Defining Moments:
My 1st competition- 2007 FAME North American Championships- Fitness Model 7th place and have been bit by the bug. One show isn't enough. I have to say I had fun met some great people including Mindy & Jeff whose personalities and approachability promote a certain camaraderie in the organization making it what it is.
To Become BodyPROUD, I commit to do the Following:
America's Next Top Fitness Model. :> No seriously though to be able to continue to motivate others to pursue a healthy lifestyle. The icing on the cake would be to bring this industry to the forefront of not only the entertainment world but to have fitness competitions be recognized as a true athletic ability requiring commitment and dedication and a slight bit of insanity to push ourselves this far. Just kidding on the latter. I believe that there are many misconceptions out there that we need to eliminate. I want people to recognize we aren't all pumped up on chemical enhancers and we're not all meat heads and meanies or snobs and that it is possible to be a fit chick and remain feminine and beautiful no matter how much we can bench press.
Life Advice that Helped Me:
Love and believe in yourself first so that you may have a foundation to do that for others. Never stop dreaming and believe that the power is in you to make all things in your life possible. Learn from your experiences whether good or bad and turn that knowledge into motivation for yourself and others and remember everything in life is a 'choice'. Choose to be the best you, you can be. I know sounds a little cliche but these are all the things I try to repeat to myself whenever a cloud or two roll in and tries to dampen my day....
How I Boosted my Confidence and/or Added Joy and/or Health into my Life:
"You never truly fail as long as you continue to try."
Please Help ME with:
Well, my story starts in my sophomore year in high school when I moved from Jamaica. I was about the same height I am now at 5' 4.5" (must throw in my 1/2 inch) and I wasn't even 100lbs soaking wet. I stayed that way from my graduation at 16yrs old until I turned 19yrs old. Needless to say I was told a number of ignorant things like I could go handgliding under a door on a dorito, or my mom being on drugs when I was born or my favorite, I can't do cheerleading because if I got tossed, even after the game they would stil be waiting for me to land. (I must admit that one was funny...) My college years were better. I was somehow adopted as the little sister of the boy's track team and there my training began. They enjoyed piling on weights on top of weights on the squat rack and I actually wasn't too bad keeping up. Still didn't put on weight but loved training with them. then one day I happend upon a certain publication which had nothing but fit models. I was always told I could model but decided I didn't want to just be another pretty face since pretty much anyone could do that without trying. I wanted a challenge so there my obsession began but not everyone was too keen on the idea especially those unfamiliar with the sport. I had to deflect many opinions of getting too big and looking manly. How did I manage? Well as they say knowledge is power. I researched all day everyday, everything I could get my hands on, even some courses in exercise physiology and human anatomy. Knowledge fueled my motivation and it became my dream to compete at least once in my lifetime.
My Dietary &/or Training Routine:
I am Body Proud in a community that strives to be the same

and some of the other sites get boring after awhile... Joking. :>
Expressing Gratitude is a Key Ingredient to a Happy Life. I Am Grateful for:
Can't choose and I am sure there's so many more to come, that I wouldn't want to....

Dee, you are so funny; I just read your profile for the first time. Dennis is a lucky guy to have these 2 sparkling personalities to train. Anyway, he tells me you have what it takes to succeed as I'm sure you know.
Maybe I'll run into you some time. Anyway, have a happy holiday season and don't be a stranger! -SArah- :-)

Hi dee,
Thanks for the add. I see you are from Miami. Did you participate in the North American finals in Miami? That was my first competition and I loved it. When will you compete again?
