Thanks for the add! We do NOT supple water coolers at this point! BUT that is a VERY good idea! Hope all is well and wish you nothing but continued success! Peace, Love and Happiness!

We've heard athletes talk about chewing sugarless gum or eating sugar-free jello or air-popped popcorn. Someone else mentioned that they chewed on ginseng sticks... Hope this helps!

Q: When dieting for a show, what can you eat that will satisfy your body's need for sugar yet still get you show results?

My BodyPROUD Story
I've been in the fitness industry for about 13 years now. I began as a group fitness instructor. Since then I've gone on to teach yoga, become a personal trainer, conduct instructor trainings & workshops, become a figure & fitness model competitor and last but not least, be an entrepreneur via my business, D-Fit by Deawna.

As is probably already apparent, I have a HUUUUGE passion for fitness! I live, breathe, eat and sleep health & fitness and couldn't be happier doing it. However, it hasn't always been the easiest journey for me. Twice I've had to go through a weight loss journey after gaining too much. The first time around I lost 33 lbs (and in a very uneducated, unknowingly unhealthy way at the time); the second time around I lost 40-45 pounds. The second time around I gained TONS more knowledge and learned how to do it and maintain it in a healthy and fit way.

As challenging as those experiences were, they brought a whole new depth of meaning to my fitness career-especially in being able to relate personally to the struggles of my clients and students.

All that being said, I'm grateful for it all and now look to take it to yet another level. I'm excited about participating in my first FAME event and hope to gain the knowledge, experience and skill sets needed to gain more exposure so that I can inspire and help others on greater, wider-reaching levels. :)
My bodyPROUD Goals:
I have just joined the Body Proud community and have set up my profile. This is because I'm looking at doing my first FAME event in Philadelphia in Jan, 2010. I'm really looking forward to all this organization has to offer. It seems like it gives much more specific advice and guidance that can be better applied to either pursue future career opportunities, improve for future physique competitions, etc. Can't wait!
My AHA Life Defining Moments:
BE HEALTHY-no drugs or artificial stimulants

BE NATURAL-regarding food, supplementation, health treatment, etc

LIVE AUTHENTICALLY-always act in alignment with your inner self

HAVE PURPOSE-daily life has more quality when there is something bigger to realize
My Transformation Triumphs!
INBF Natural Atlantic Coast Figure Open Contest: 3rd place
-This was my very first show and my most meaningful trophy yet. I just wanted to see what I could be when trying my very best. I didn't even know if I'd place. I was just so happy to be able to hold my own on stage that I felt like I won even before trophies were awarded.

NPC Lenda Murray Figure Championships: 4th Place Open

OCB Natural Steel City Figure Championships: 3rd Place Novice

OCB Natural Steel City Fitness Model Contest: 3rd Place

OCB Iron City Classic Figure Contest: 2nd Place Novice Short and 4th Place Open

OCB Iron City Classic Fitness Model: 2nd Place
My bodyPROUD Intentions:
Feel Better about Myself, Compete in Physique Showcase Events, Be an Inspiration to Others, Get Discovered - TV, Magazines, Sponsorship, Gain Exposure
To Become BodyPROUD, I commit to do the Following:
I'm looking to compete in my first FAME Event in Philadelphia over January 9th & 10th. I'm back in training mode now and am looking forward to the CAMP & Practice Events also being held that weekend.
Life Advice that Helped Me:
It starts in the mind-or gut rather. Tune in to your gut. What is your truest desire? What gives you an overwhelming sense of peace, happiness or joy when you envision it? Let that guide you in each decision you make. Make decisions out of faith versus fear and they are never wrong. Good can always come from every circumstance-even our mistakes. So don't be afraid. Live authentically.

Now that you've made a decision from that place, just take one step and one piece at a time. As you handle each part, the next will fall into place. Taking the journey in this way makes it feel much more manageable. Then one day you'll open your eyes and realize, "Oh my gosh! I've actually arrived!" :)
How I Boosted my Confidence and/or Added Joy and/or Health into my Life:
Focused Thinking:

Everything starts in the mind. If you say and believe you can, you will. If you say and believe you can't, you won't. The body is very sensitive to internal thoughts so pick them carefully. Focus on what you CAN do and not the other way around. Strike the balance between honoring the body's signals and needs without giving up or believing your own excuses.
Please Help ME with:
How do I break into fitness modeling?

What specific things need to happen (i.e. creating a portfolio, talking to a specific contact/organization, submission/application protocol, etc)
My Dietary &/or Training Routine:
How I train for maintenance and train for competition are different. The minimum requirements are below ...

Nutrition:

natural, unprocessed, healthy foods
proper balance of protein/carbs/fat
eat breakfast within one hour of waking
eat every 3-4 hours-like clockwork!!

Physical Fitness:

You get out what you put in. Work out like you mean it!

Properly balance rest/work days. 2 active rest days each week, preferably spaced apart.

2-5 days of strength training (depending on goals)

5 days of cardio per week

1-2 days of yoga or flexibility sessions per week
Expressing Gratitude is a Key Ingredient to a Happy Life. I Am Grateful for:
being in a place where I do what I love every single day (health & fitness that is). I am my own boss. As scary as it can be (as there's no such thing as a steady paycheck), it's an exciting, faith-guided ride for which I'm thrilled to be a part. Most of the time I'm always excited for what the future has in store.
Profession:
Personal Trainer &/or Fitness Professional, Entrepreneur, Health & Lifestyle

Hi Deawna, I am glad you contacted me. I have been researching and experimenting for blood type dieting for a few years now. I have found outstanding results with my clients on it. I customize thier diets with thier blood type in mind along with thier goals with the expertise I have for knowing the strong and weap points for thier blood type. Are you preping for a show or event? have you been using nutritionist in the past? what are your goals?
