Hey Christiane, no worries about quistions. Thats why were all here to learn from one another. Generally speaking your most clean foods are lean in nature (non fatty cuts of meats and such). Preperation does play a role, Fried is bad. High in…

Christine, I'm not an expert, but I think all your questions are answered "yes." It's not so much the food itself but its efficiency in the body. You're helping other people to learn (me) by asking questions.

Alan and Minoty, Thanks for the explanation. Sorry about all the questions, but I have more! So it really has to do with fat and not chemicals? Would you consider organic foods more clean than food that is not organically grown? Would raw food be…

"Clean Food" is energy efficent and balenced foods, such as chicken, lean beef, fiborous greens ect. The less additives and saturated fats in your foods the easy it is for your body to proccess them. Clean foods are lean foods.

This isn't the full answer, but bodybuilders and fitness people coin "clean diet" as omitting unhealthy fats (no pizza, hotdogs, etc.), chemicals, or sugars (cakes, donuts, sundays, unhealthy desserts). If you can imagine eating this…

Kathleen--good luck! I missed most of the conversation. You mention pain. Is it fibro? I know a couple of people with that (including me). I've learned to keep going because the alternative is not good. But so many others live miserable and…

My Plug:
I'm a writer. My hands are in great shape and can still type about 120 wpm. If you need a writer, let me know and we can talk. http://www.ineedawriter.net/
My BodyPROUD Story
I raised five children, and homeschooled them for many years. We adopted a teenager from Romania and that made five. Some say we were crazy. Maybe that's what it takes to save one kid from the streets.

The lack of an emphasis on health and fitness in the public schools was one major reason I homeschooled. Gym once or twice a week? Give up recess? Hours of homework preventing excercise in the sunlight?

I emphasized fitness. We walked and ran daily. My kids could climb anything, walk the balance beam, perform gymnastics stunts. They learned to eat well too. We made our own flour and bread. I cooked surrounded by my helpers. They had a great appetite for fruits and veggies. All of my kids continue to work out and stay healthy. My Navy kid is having a great time in Cross Fit. She met a great guy there. I know she can't live without her daily extreme workout.

So what am I doing on my...? Well, I guess we tend to fall back into our early training unless we are intentional. That's why my kids keep moving and I keep studying.

They inspire me. I'm looking for some more inspiration. Tell me your story. Did you start out like me--a little extra layer around every part, weakening muscles, suddenly constantly sedentary? How long did it take you to overcome and form new habits?
My Facts 'n Stats:
I've had many jobs that kept me moving all day long: in-house personal chef, special education teacher (gotta keep up with the normal kids labeled ADHD); owned my own daycare and even mowed lawns once. Writing consumed a good part of my day most of my life. Things are a bit out of balance these days as I mostly research and write.
My AHA Life Defining Moments:
The body is a fantastic gift. I need to treat mine better. Good diet is not enough.
My Transformation Triumphs!
Well, even though I studied a lot, I was stronger than the guys in junior high. I could climb better and do more pull ups and push ups. But once they got that testosterone, they left me in the dust. I'm more proud of my kids though!
My bodyPROUD Intentions:
Improve my Health, Gain More Flexibility, Increase My Strength, Keep Me Young, Feel Good in a Bathing Suit, Be an Inspiration to Others
To Become BodyPROUD, I commit to do the Following:
One year should do it, though hopefully that will only be the start of something better.
Please Help ME with:
I'm 53. (What's the use of pretending I'm younger?) I think I'm probably supposed to be careful how I start. Anyone here begin getting back into physical exercise over 50? Any advice beyond checking with a doctor?
Profession:
Teacher, Entrepreneur, Other

Starting Small, er... very small

Posted on March 16, 2010 at 12:00am 5 Comments

For some of us, there's a long way to go. But there are plenty of inspirational stories at BodyProud. People who have lost weight, changed their bodies significantly, overcome drug addiction, eating disorders, and escaped destructive relationships. Even a senior who strengthened his body so he could carry his handicapped wife!

Observing the transformations in this very special cyberspace is awe-inspiring. It makes me want to get up and move. But then the clumsy life around me causes… Continue

From the Neck Up--Red Face!

Posted on March 10, 2010 at 2:07pm 4 Comments

Wouldn't you know it. I create my profile and accidentally upload what I thought was my profile picture to something that will flash on the front page!

So whenever a person visits this site, they will see pictures of beautiful, muscular bodies of radiantly young individuals...then suddenly there is my over 50 face. At least I'm smiling. But this is hugely embarassing. No Enormously, or as a four year old I once knew said, "Hunormous!"

I discovered my mistake too late and… Continue

Hey I noticed your body proud photo and wanted to say how thrilled I am to welcome you to the Body Proud crowd! Here we are truly Judgement free tribe so don't trip on the photo dilemma. My father tried his hand at home sschooling me but I decided I knew more than my father and ran out like the prodigal son. The older I get the smarter he becomes. He might not have been the teacher you are but his mind was and still is full of worldly knowledge. I am proud of you and unfortunately for my dad you ARE in better shape than he right now. you are blessed to have fulfilled so many aspirations and inspired so many in your child rearing. You are a Proverbs woman. Stay eas momma and holla at me any time.
