"Gym addict athletes" is a most unusual title for a discussion group. Years ago, I was a gym rat. I was a gym addict until one day I became overtrained. I was going to the gym six days each week, two hours each day, and I was drug free. As a result, I quickly became overtrained. I lasted six weeks  on that schedule, until my body no longer made any progress. I noticed that my energy, strength, and motivation began to diminish as time went by. After six weeks, I woke up one morning and my muscles and joints were very sore. I was fatigued and even though I had slept eight hours, I had no desire to go to the gym. That is when I knew I was overtrained and had to make a change in my training routine. I decided that less is better. I reduced my training time to just one hour per day, three to four days per week. The extra time off was needed for my body to rest and recover. After all, your muscles recover when you are resting, not when you are in the gym pumping iron. That was years ago, and since then I have made great progress in my training routine. If you pump iron, remember this. More is not always better, especially if you are drug free.
