Teach Your Children! Be Body Proud!

Children observe and adopt similar likes, dislikes and/or habits as their parents, caregivers, teachers & role models. Embrace this concept! Understand that by treating your body with respect, fueling it efficiently and in a healthy manner impacts and inspires youth, even your own children, to do the same. Along with Loving Your Body and Being Body Proud comes confidence, self love, self respect, better health, more energy and most importantly to the kids, a positive life role model.

As a co-founder of the Body Proud Phenomenon, I have heard countless stories about parents who adopt the Body Proud Lifestyle and are amazed to see their children choose healthy, fresh foods as snacks and request to exercise or be active rather than watch TV or play video games.

Adults are always a role model to children so embrace that responsibility... Love Your Body! Be Body Proud!! You will benefit greatly... and...Your children will THANK YOU!

Please also share YOUR story on how you have influenced those around you.

Thank you!

Very true - I intend to do this with my babe! I never understand why so many people say "I can't eat clean when my kids bad food is everywhere in the kitchen"... why would you feed your child over-processed, sugary, fried, foods? There's no reason why little children should eat junk!!!
YOU SAY IT SISTER!!!

We are who they will become.

My 11 year old son is a brazilian jujitsui fighter and has been training since he was 6. He is working toward his next belt advancement diligently. My child knows the committment of showing up, being taught and receiving the entire experience everytime he trains in the gym is more than a roll on the mats. He has learned this is a forming of the man he will become.
The bjj training with the masters and their students, to be a part of an elite group that shares a passion for a skill is a gift. To be kind and firm is a required skill in life..The relationships formed in the gym and on the mats commands a childs self respect and teaches them respect for all things.
As we grow through our share of tough times, my son has developed a confidence and respect for the physical being that only comes with study and care. My victory over this crippling illness is the forefront of my mind and actions because he will live my determination in his own way one day soon and many days far away. If I question and lose faith in my recovery, he will slip and lose faith in himself and his craft. When I press on, smile and move forward with my chin up and meet the challenge where it finds me..he will do the same. This is heaven to me.

When we consciously mentor our children, in the same way, to treat others as they want to be treated, tend to the world we live in that is ours to care for and be a part of the solution to any problem, we create leaders and world changers.
To teach a child about food that heals us and foods that hurt us is also teaching then spiritual, mental, physical and emotional discernment that grows with them throughout their lives.Children too recognize knowledge is power. They appreciate our time and wisdom and will fit their feet in those footprints for the rest of their lives.
There is a silent reverence in personal respect and accomplishment that we give our children permission to achieve by achieving our own. It is my priviledge to be a student of the young, for without my child, I would have learned none of what I treasure.

Godspeed All,
Honnor
I couldn't agree more! My nine year old son does have a sweet tooth but my four year old son loves to eat fish with me, and my six year old daughter loves sweet potatoes. They all chow down on salad. I can not keep fresh fruit or veggies in the house, they love them, I am always running to the store to stock back up! :)

Also, I live my life around my kids sports literally! My oldest son plays football, baseball, and is on our city swim team, my duaghter is on a competition cheer and a comptition dance team, She can do 3 bankhandsprings in a row. And my youngest son will be starting T-ball this spring. We are a very busy, but healthy family!
My husband and I have both competed in fitness competitions and continue to eat healthy as well as living an active lifestyle. When our daughter was born we built a fully equiped gym in our basement so I could train at home while I was off on maternity leave. By the time Danielle was 5 she could do both pull ups and chin ups on our Smith machine. Her favorite breakfast is oatmeal and eggwhites and for dinner she loves spiced up bar-b-qued chicken, raw veggies and whole wheat pasta. Amazing for a child who is 7? Not really when her 2 main role models eat healthy and rarely go through a drive through. My advice, keep plenty of chopped veggies in the fridge for snack time as well as fruit, yogart and almonds. Get active with your children; we skate and tobaggan all winter and swim and bike throughout the summer months. I love it that she never wants the tv on and would rather do lunges in the basement with me. I competed the first time in April 2008 and she came to watch my show. I know she was very proud of me for the dedication and commitment to compete. The role modelling we demonstrate to our children is very powerful. This year it is my turn to support her in her pursuit of Irish dancing; my turn to watch! She is committed to her dance and practices nightly. I am positive this has a lot to do with how we have shown her how we have dedicated ourselves to our activities. I guess the best tip I have is those little eyes are always watching us and mimmick everything we do. They are our mini me's!
Cheers!
Lisa
