**A Great Warrior's Advice**

When you rise in the morning, give thanks for the light, for your life, for your strength. Give thanks for your food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason to give thanks, the fault lies in yourself. Show respect to all people, but grovel to none. Trouble noone about his religion, respect others in their view. Always give a word or sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend, or even a stranger, if in a lonely place. From my tribe I take nothing, I am the maker of my own fortune. Let us form one body, one heart, and defend to the last warrior our country, our homes, our liberty, and the graves of our fathers. Live your life so that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide. When your time comes, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.

"If I had to select one quality, one personal characteristic that I regard as being
most highly correlated with success, whatever the field, I would pick the trait
of persistence. Determination. The will to endure to the end, to get knocked down
seventy times and get up off the floor saying, ''Here comes number seventy-one!''

I'd always tried to exercise and eat right.. and ever since high school I've had a decent above average level of endurance and stamina. (though at no wish offend everyone.. to me it doesn't say much for the average level of fitness out there..) But I'd sat at 275 lbs for probably the past several years post pro-wrestling body.. and finally after Mindy egging me on and encouraging me to enter my first contest..

I decided that was probably the motivation I needed. To give me the focus.. to once and for all drop that weight and return to a healthy size I'd been once upon a time. By giving myself a goal.. it made it 'easier' to stay on track.. I had marked down on the calender and wrote down my goals that I wanted to lose weight and keep a much leaner profile.. They say that dreams are just goals not written down. I've always been a history buff.. and I remember once about the Trojan Horse.. "If you're ignorant of history.. then you become history.." (ie. history repeats) And my favorite adage.. "If you don't know where you've been.. then you don't know where you are.. and you don't know where you're going.."

I followed Bill Phillips old (yet definitely NOT tired) dvd of eating 5-6 meals a day balancing one 'fistful' of carbs.. one fistful of protein.. and an equal serving of veggies. Between that and filling the remaining meals with meal replacement shakes. And it wasn't long before the change in diet began to take shape on my body.

Working out first thing in the morning was no biggie.. mostly because I'd grown up on the farm and used to milking cows at 4:45 am.. and the payoff soon began to show! It was a few weeks and I'd dropped almost twenty pounds!! And as the days/weeks went by.. the motivation to stay on track INCREASED.. and also became a mental thing.. To very great degree.. I realized it was a test of might.. mental might.. By the time the contest had rolled around I was at my goal of dropping well below 250 (even 240!) and I was shocked to find I'd been fitting into jeans I hadn't worn for almost a decade! I honestly didn't even care about achieving anything.. though it WAS a bit scary onstage.. because to me I'd already WON a stronger leaner body..

I guess aside from learning to concentrate and stay on track with eating and exercise.. in retrospect.. I also realized that eating.. too much.. is not a good thing. Now I've really cut back on the fast food.. and smaller smaller portioned food each serving. As far as competing.. Heck yes sign me up!! I'll see you in Edmonton Sept 11th...

1. The greatest mistake you can make in life is to continually be afraid you will make one.

2. Go back a little to leap further.

3. Life's real failure is when you do not realize how close you were to success when you gave up.”

4. Failure is a detour, not a dead-end street.”

5. You've got to say, I think that if I keep working at this and want it badly enough I can have it. It's called perseverance.
