I began doing deadlifts on the block because I get a better effect from my exercise. I have done deadlifts on the floor and they work great if you want to build size and strength. You can handle more weight with the barbell on the floor and your feet on the floor, than you would be able to if you were  standing on a three inch block of wood or brick. I stand on the block because it presents more of a challenge and I get a better effect from the exercise, however, I cannot lift as much weight as I would be able to if I stand on the floor. Doing deadlifts while standing on a block is a bodybuilding exercise, not a powerlifting exercise. Here is the question. Do you do deadlifts, and if yes, how do you perform them? Do you use a sumo or conventional stance? Do you stand on a block while lifting? Have a wonderful Monday afternoon.

Yours truly,

I really dig your post brother but on this one I'm gonna have to agree to disagree -- Yes, I believe there is something to be said for a longer extension in the case of the stiff legged dead lift only because you want to thicken the hamstrings by stretching them as long as posiible on the way down so there's more pull on the way up to force them to really grow -- OK-- but on the deadlift I really believe if your squating for one like any good bodybuilder should be then it's redundant to sacrifice the excersise weight by adding a block to it -- I mean when I was taught how to do a proper deadlift I was taught from the florr and I was also instructed to drop your butt and drag the bar close to your shins (within a 1/2" or so -- I even sometimes hit my shins to really dig deep for the 1 rep max) so your legs and butt can really help you dig for that extra towing capacity as a point of leverage so that when your back takes over you've actually lifted maybe 50 pounds more -- and this is even true for reps. Right now I'm cutting for contest prep and though I'm not lifting as heavy as I was in my mass season I'm still giving 100% to rep a minimum of 8 of my heaviest weight. If I don't squat my butt to the floor and dig as I said earlier I can't get those last couple of reps cause I've gotten lazy which means I have to start my set all over to do em right -- the point is you can get that 3" EFFECT by just emphasizing a butt to the ground method and emphasize bar placement -- also foot placement seems pertinent as well. I like the shoulder width with my toes pointed out about 45 degrees and my hands placed with my pinkies right at 3/4" from the wedding band this somehow seems to give me a shorter distance to travel so I lock out at the top for a paused 2 seconds before dropping for the next one -- this becomes really pertinent on my 3 rep and 1 rep maxes more weight means more growth and when I'm cutting more weight for my 8 reps means more muscle stimulation to keep my muscles perky for show day right? Anyhow, not banging on ya homie just thought I'd share my thoughts on it -- now what do you think about MY philosophy I'm always curious to hear everyones reasonings and philosophies --as that no one knows everything I could encorporate a new style if it sounds legit and pass it on to someone else just the same that's how legacies are built right?? Alright roady stay easy and have a great week and be blessed!!
