This is a great sight! I have found such great support and inspiration here. My body isn't quite where I want it to be yet, but I have been so motivated by all of my BP friends, I am thinking of competing in Texas. I want to thank everyone for all of your support.

Hi Mindy, I am 35 years young, single mom and would love to compete in the masters divisions of FAME competitions. How do I get there? I workout (cardio and weight train) 5 + days a week and eat clean. I need to step it up a notch and am looking for some help in the Hartford, CT area. Can anyone out there give me some advice? I have never even seen a competition before but I know I can do it - Lauren

Well, just over 2 months later, and I reached my goal of 188 lbs by my deadline, which was my birthday last week!!!
I found that just having a goal isn't enough...it's the target date that really kept me on track! That, and the fact that if I didn't reach my goal, I promised a friend I would join the old ladies for the Aquasize class in the pool at our gym, and everyone could bring video cameras...that was DEFINITELY enough motivation for me;)lol

To celebrate I did a photoshoot with FAME's official photographer, Tim Rollans...it was a blast but the one picture of me lifting my shirt was definitely something new for me. I have never thought of myself as being in good enough shape for that kind of a photo, but it was definitely fun to try and break the ice!

I still need a lot more work in the ab area but it's coming! This is without a doubt, the BEST shape I've ever been in, and I owe so much of it to the competitors, FAME, and the whole BODY PROUD lifestyle!
FAME has TOTALLY inspired me to reach goals I NEVER thought possible...that and I never want to be the outta shape white kid backstage again :) lol

Thanks everyone for all your encouragement and support!!!!

Hi Alicia,

Congratulations on making the commitment to be Body Proud.

As far as dietary changes it's up to you what you would like to incorporate and when. A good starting point would be to cut down (or eliminate) your intake of processed foods (including white sugar and white flour) and fried foods. We personally believe in a balanced diet where all meals have a combination of healthy protein, complex carbs and good fat.

Hope this helps!!

I'm excited about this site. I havn't had a chance to really get into it though. I have 2 toddlers, I'm a Professional Massage Therapist working on creating a Wellness Studio, and I am trying to get my body in Optimal shape to also compete soon, I have never been in a competition before so, I'm hoping to gain some knowledge and have fun obtaining my goal with everyone on Body Proud.

Hi Michelle!

Welcome to the Body Proud Community! That's great that you're gearing yourself to compete and get in optimal shape. :-)

I am not certified as a trainer and am not familiar with the program you mentioned, however you will find that there are tons of athletes and top trainers in this community who can assist.

Good sources of complex carbohydrates include brown rice, sweet potatoes, oatmeal, whole grains, etc.

Hope this helps! Good luck with your Wellness Studio. Sounds very exciting. Thanks so much for Inspiring Body Proud!

Hi Michele: Michael Ferencsik here, one of the FAME Pro's and Personal Trainers. I know the program you had mentioned. As far as a eating plan goes, it's fine and by most individuals standards is 100% better then what they are accustom to eating.

As an elite natural athlete looking to compete you will need to turn it up a notch.

I have been training individuals for competitions for almost thirty years and can honestly say if orchestrated properly preparing for a competition will be one of the most physically and emotionally rewarding experiences of your life.
Most importantly you do not need to be miserable and if you embrace the lifestyle 24/7 you will be one of the most conditioned and healthiest looking athletes on the stage.

It's all about addressing three issues in regards to your eating ,your frequency, content and portions .All this can be fine tuned by determining your LMM ( lean-muscle -mass) . Once you have established your percentage of body fat you can then create a base line as far your caloric consumption is concerned. Sounds really complicated but it's really quite simple. Once you do that you will be on auto pilot. Planning, prep, monitoring is all part of it as well.Keep in mind that which ever program you go with your health needs to be your number one concern, nothing crazy, no total depletion of any necessary food sources.Keep it balanced and your body will respond.

I have not only consulted for athletes competing in World championships but have won my fair share of World titles myself. I walk the walk and talk the talk 24/7.I continue my quest to improve every day and look forward to doing so well into my senior years.

Michele, Congrats on your commitment and know that if you are looking for a helping hand as part of the Body proud family I will always be there to answer your questions. The sooner you start living the lifestyle the healthier and leaner you will be.

I have started a new FAME Team, check out the details on my profile page. Be part of the newest Fame team that is promoting drug free athletics to our youth, set a motivational and healthy example and get into the best condition of your life.Would love to have you on the team.Remember, stepping on stage is not that difficult , it just takes a consistent effort and you will experience one of the most positive and uplifting times of your life.
